January’s Girl Hero: Izzy Geronimo
As we enter the New Year, we honor a beloved Girls on the Run Puget Sound Staff member transitioning out of her role this month. Our Incredible Izzy Geronimo has been with our organization since 2018, when she started as a part-time Program Coordinator. As a former college athlete, Izzy felt a connection to Girls on the Run and saw the importance of the program's mission of building confidence and inner strength. After interviewing with the team, she knew that Girls on the Run felt like family.
After her part-time role and finishing graduate school at Seattle University, Izzy was brought on as a full-time Program Coordinator and has served many different roles in her four-year tenure at the organization. It is not an understatement to say that Izzy has had a foot in almost all aspects of Girls on the Run. From site recruitment to volunteer onboarding, heading the 5K event to putting on our first in-person Sneaker Soiree since COVID-19, Izzy's dedication and passion for the Girls on the Run mission does not go unnoticed.
Those who know Izzy recognize her love and commitment to the organization. She goes above and beyond to serve our community and does so with a grin on her face. Her lighthearted, fun, goofy energy keeps our small team smiling even in moments of difficulty and stress. In times of change, Izzy has been a glue for our organization and makes our team determined not to lose sight of the endless possibilities ahead.
Girls on the Run has provided Izzy with tremendous highlights throughout her time. This year she reflected on two favorite memories: seeing the community come together to celebrate 20 Years of GOTRPS at our Sneaker Soiree and cheering and running alongside the West Seattle Elementary School team at their Site-Based 5K. Special moments like this will stay with Izzy in her future endeavors.
Our staff will miss Izzy dearly and know there will be a void of energy within our office and organization. We know Izzy will still be Girls on the Run's biggest fan, cheering on the from the sidelines and carrying the life skills she has learned through GOTR in her daily life. Cheers to you and all you have done for Girls on the Run, Izzy! We cannot wait to see what this next chapter has in store for you and how you will let your Star Power shine.
